Why Enclodoc

  • ✓ Files stay on your device — closed tab clears memory
  • ✓ No unnecessary uploads and no server copies
  • ✓ Fast browser processing — no queues
  • ✓ Works without account for supported free usage

If a file ever needs a server step, we ask first — never silently.

No upload — your file never leaves your device (verify in DevTools)

EncloDoc unlocks PDFs 100% in your browser via WebAssembly. Your file is read with FileReader, decrypted with Web Crypto in memory, and re-saved — no fetch() sends your document to a server. Open DevTools → Network before you drop a file: you will see zero file requests. Close the tab and memory clears. That is why unlock pdf without uploading is not a marketing line — it is the architecture. Competitors say "deleted after 1 hour" because they upload; EncloDoc never has a copy to delete.

After first load the WASM is cached. Disconnect Wi-Fi and unlock again — it still works offline, because there is no cloud step. For bank statements, payslips, or ID scans that you would never email to a random server, local processing is the only sane option. If you can see it in your browser, no one else can.

Owner-lock vs open-password — we auto-detect

PDFs have two passwords: an owner password that blocks printing or copying but opens without a prompt, and an open password that locks the file. EncloDoc auto-detects the type. If your file opens but "Copy" is greyed out, we strip the owner lock without asking. If it asks for a password on open, you enter it once — checked only in your browser — and we remove it for the download. No account, no email.

Legal: Only unlock files you own or are authorized to handle. The unlocked PDF is flattened — we rasterize pages to guarantee password removal across viewers — so selectable text, forms, links, and vector elements may not remain editable. Use it to regain access, not to defeat rights management you do not own.

FAQ — Unlock PDF
No. Unlock runs 100% in your browser with the Web Crypto API — your PDF and the password you type never leave this tab. Smallpdf, iLovePDF and Adobe upload both the file and password to their servers; EncloDoc has no server to upload to. You can verify: open Chrome DevTools → Network → drop a file and unlock — zero file-payload requests appear. Close the tab and memory clears.
Some PDFs carry only an owner password — they open freely but block printing, copying, or editing. That restriction is enforced by your viewer, not by encryption of the content. The PDF spec leaves the open-password empty in that case, so we detect it automatically and strip the /Encrypt dictionary with no prompt. If your file needs an open password, we show the password field instead.
We handle AES-256 (PDF 1.7 R6 / PDF 2.0) and RC4-128 (older PDFs) locally. If the file was encrypted with a certificate or with a password you don't know, we cannot unlock it — legitimate tools don't crack unknown passwords. You'll see "We couldn't convert this file — encrypted, damaged, or unsupported structure" with a suggestion to request a fresh copy from the sender.
Unlocking a PDF you own or have permission to modify is legal; unlocking someone else's copyrighted document without permission is not. All pages, text, fonts, images and form fields are preserved exactly — only the /Encrypt dictionary is removed. Note: digital signatures bind to the encrypted bytes, so unlocking invalidates a signature. If you must keep a signature valid, open the file in a viewer without unlocking.
